Director: Dr Michael Humphries
Michael holds degrees in engineering from the Universities of Liverpool, California and London and qualified as a Chartered Civil Engineer in 1974.
Following conventional beginnings as a design engineer in large international consultancies (Brian Colquhoun & Ptnrs., Robert Matthew, Johnson-Marshall & Ptnrs., Ove Arup & Ptnrs.,) Michael’s career has embraced academia, shipbuilding (see Alpha Sailing ), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and the Environment Agency.
Since 2001 he has built on his 30 years experience in construction by developing expertise in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy generation, establishing Alpha Energy Solutions in 2005.
In 2007 the Government introduced legislation requiring householders to implement energy efficiency surveys before putting their houses on the market for sale. This legal requirement was extended to the rental sector in 2008.
Michael was in the first cohort of Domestic Energy Assessors trained and accredited by the Building Research Establishment in 2007, and thus is qualified to carry out energy surveys and issue Energy Performance Certificates under this legislation.
